Biotransformation of Hydrocortisone by Neurospora crassa
The ability of Neurospora crassa FGSC 4335 in the biotransformation of hydrocortisone was investigated. The microorganism produced two major metabolites after incubation with the substrate for seven days. Each microbial product was purified chromatographically and identified on the basis of spectral data. The products were identified as 11?,17?,20?,21-tetrahydroxypregn-4-en-3-one (II) and 11?-h...
متن کاملActivation of Neurospora crassa soluble adenylate cyclase by calmodulin.
The soluble form of adenylate cyclase was extracted and purified from wild-type Neurospora crassa mycelia. Brain or N. crassa calmodulin significantly enhanced this enzyme activity in assay mixtures containing Mg2+-ATP as substrate. EGTA reverses this calmodulin activation.
متن کاملMultiple layers of temporal and spatial control regulate accumulation of the fruiting body-specific protein APP in Sordaria macrospora and Neurospora crassa.
During fungal fruiting body development, specialized cell types differentiate from vegetative mycelium. We have isolated a protein from the ascomycete Sordaria macrospora that is not present during vegetative growth but accumulates in perithecia. The protein was sequenced by mass spectrometry and the corresponding gene was termed app (abundant perithecial protein). app transcript occurs only af...
متن کاملIsolation and characterization of low-kynureninase mutants of Neurospora crassa.
Two kynureninase activities are known in Neurospora crassa, one of which (kynureninase I) is inducible, the other (kynureninase II) being constitutive. A method is described for the isolation of low-kynureninase mutants of N. crassa. When grown on an inducer, the mutants show significantly less kynureninase I activity compared with wild type, whereas constitutive kynureninase II activity is una...
متن کاملIntracellular Crystalline Ergosterol in Neurospora
In the fungus Neurospora crassa, hexagonal crystalline inclusions have been observed with both the light and electron microscopes. These crystals have been enriched by differential centrifugation and found to be identical with ergosterol by the criteria of ultraviolet spectral analysis and cytochemical analysis. Observations have been made on the distribution and fine structure of the crystalli...
متن کاملDirect induction in wild-type Neurospora crassa of mutants (qa-1 c ) constitutive for the catabolism of quinate and shikimate.
A color test has been developed for the selection and identification of mutants in Neurospora crassa, constitutive for the three normally inducible enzymes which convert quinate to protocatechuate. By this means seven such mutants have been recovered after ultra violet irradiation of wild type and have been shown to be allelic (or very closely linked) to the qa-1(C) mutants previously obtained ...
